As you know (I think) I decided on Life Balance (http://www.llamagraphics.com/LB/LifeBalanceTop.html) for the outlining/to-do/tickler part of GTD. I was more concerned with the PDA side than the Windoze side though. It seems like there are 3 or 4 popular apps that people choose. I guess you'll just have to test a couple of them out to see what suits you.I'm really glad that you're liking the system so far. I'm still really surprised that you even need it. I guess you can just never tell, and, like David says, it's often the brightest people that need GTD. It was for that reason that I sent an email to all of my friends and, of course I was surprised at the ones who were most interested and bought the book.Anyway... I'll stop rambling now. I can't wait to see your next post about how GTD is working for you.

I had no idea GTD had so many enthusiasts. I confess this surprises me, given the enormous range of different "information processing behaviours" out there. I think this proves just how great the need for Personal Productivity Improvement really is. Thank you all for the comments and additional links. I've started my "stuff gathering" and should be able to start Getting Things Done on Monday.

There's also a 3-hour audiobook version of GTD at audible.com for $20, for people who prefer to learn that way.

I've been using a PIM called Ecco for many years -- it's combination of effective text outlining, classification of items, ticklers, calendars, and alarms has the best integration of features I've seen. Recently, on the EccoPro Yahoo mailing list, a few folks have published Ecco templates for GTD. I haven't tried it/them yet, but several successes have been reported on the list. Ecco is now free, on a "don't ask, don't tell" basis (see eccorocks.com for a start), and it looks like it may become open source soon.As for getting a PKM going, take a look at Mitch Kapor's OSS Chandler project at osafoundation.org. It's got the infrastructure to develop such a thing on; all you'd need <g> would be some dedicated developers to build the PKM application on it.

Great comment on centering technology around applications instead of vice versa. We took the market-leading visualisation software (Mindjet's MindManager®) and extended it to model GTD so that you can view projects graphically and create GTD lists automatically (http://www.gyronix.com). I look forward to reading more!

If you speak Outlook you might check out the Outlook plugin that the David Allen people put out. http://www.davidco.com/productDetail.php?id=63Gets a lot of good reviews.

Great post, Dave! And congratulations on drinking the GTD Kool Aid. :-)You may have seen this, but there is a prettier version of that flowchart:http://www.davidco.com/pdfs/gtd_workflow_advanced.pdf
