If I may, I'd like to speculate on the children & family question.Anyone who's biologically capable can have children; it takes a more evolved and self-aware emotional soul to fully enjoy and appreciate them.Likewise, most of us have biological family. Whether or not we choose to spend meaningful time with them depends on a number of things, reasonable family members inclusive!I think one can extrapolate from this little story and apply the thinking and lessons to pretty much any interpersonal transaction. I know too many people who confuse being hitched with being in a real marriage, with all the possibilities and closures to possibility that entails. Likewise, I know plenty of people who think that spitting out some kids = family. Which, technically, is true, but heaven help the children born into those kinds of families. Pursuit of the hot, young thing may be hardwired, but it's also something civilization allows you to override. To not do so means that you're looking for happiness outside of yourself, and brother, that's a fool's errand.

Dave,Nice story! Being close to Jack and Dan's age, I can relate to them. It is a subject worth expanding on. Not only can the idea of "money" come into play, but also "creativity". Something to think about. ;)An enjoyable, and enlightening read. (And I like your weblog too...I visit it every-so-often.) ~ Craig

Enjoyed the story immensely. I'd rather hang out and be friends with someone who excites my intellect than someone who is interested only in my youth. What these girls had to say was so much more interesting than Jack and Dan's view... I felt sort of sad for both men. I hope they found some happiness.. Like Dan said - being 23 is not a bed of roses! but then, these girls don't sound real either :) they are too wise and that made me envious!
