NANCY HASTINGS (MOORHOUSE)

NANCY HASTINGS (MOORHOUSE)

Upon leaving Kelvin, I went to the U of M (for two years) and then U of W to complete my degree in Political Science.  Upon graduation, I worked as a researcher in the Mincome Project for the Federal and Provincial Departments of Health (a research experiment to determine the feasibility of a guaranteed annual income).   Four years later, I was given the opportunity to work for the Manitoba Management Committee of Cabinet, which is where I met my husband, Garry Hastings.   We were married in 1977 and have two children, Katie (19) and Michael (15).  I left the work force when our children were babies and then joined my husbandís family business where I have remained throughout Katie and Michaelís school years.  Katie has just completed her first year of Science at the U of W, planning to major in Biology and pursue a career in a science related field.  Michael is finishing Grade 10 at JH Bruns Collegiate.  He loves technical music production and computer science and will likely pursue a career with ìtechnicalî or ìcomputerî in the title.  Michael has been challenged most of his life by an immune system disease, which cannot be cured (at least not yet) and which has defined many of the choices he has made for himself, and we have made as a family.  I have always been involved in their school and sport activities and am currently Treasurer of the JH Bruns parent council.  I love to garden, read and play bridge but donít seem to spend enough time on any of them.  Now that our children are older, and I am free again to pursue my own interests, I am reviewing my choices and looking forward to new opportunities.
