Dave & Cassie
Picnic with my granddaughter, June 2002, photo taken by my daughter

What I’m planning on writing about soon:

  • Finding & Working With Others to Save the World: Ways to enable billions to sync with us, on their own terms, in their own context, developing their own plan of action, and then to connect and collaborate in powerful ways, in experiments and in creating and refining working models in their own self-selected Earth-stewarding intentional communities, so that they no longer need the systems that are destroying our world.
  • What’s Holding Us Back: Our modern society’s three-way tension between falling into the Centre, progressing to the Edge, and just giving up.
  • Seismic Shifts of Worldview: The collective change of mind that seems to be spreading everywhere, even among conservatives and those afflicted by anomie. There’s something happening here.
  • The Fourth Turning: The coming era ofrepression and violent reactionary tyranny?
  • The New Agenda: Kunstler’s proposal that we begin thinking of entirely new and sustainable ways of living, and of doing everything differently, starting right now.
  • More on Workarounds: The only way anything important actually gets done?
  • Religion as a Form of Slavery: And technophilia as the fastest growing religion of them all.

What I’m thinking about:

What would I be doing 10-15 hours per week if I wasn’t blogging?

So what’s on your mind this week?

    What a wonderful photo Dave.

Really interested in ‘the fourth turning’ idea. Can you explain more? I am also interested in your thoughts on the 20,10s, i.e. the next decade. I am trying to capture insights on my blog.

good reading, as usual.I wonder if the changes we are starting to see will come soon enough. Everything seems to move so slowly. I know that everyone will eventually buy into sustainability, but I worry that it might be too late for the planet by that point.Sarah

This photo seems a portal into the secret of life. The girl is beautiful. She appears not to be aware how poorly the world sometimes works. So she is part of the solution.

The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature. Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment. Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct. Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel. Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet. Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist. Emotion is what we experience during gaps in our thinking. If there are no gaps there is no emotion. Today people are thinking all the time and are mistaking thought (words/ language) for emotion. When society switches-over from physical work (agriculture) to mental work (scientific/ industrial/ financial/ fast visuals/ fast words ) the speed of thinking keeps on accelerating and the gaps between thinking go on decreasing. There comes a time when there are almost no gaps. People become incapable of experiencing/ tolerating gaps. Emotion ends. Man becomes machine. A society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety. A ( travelling )society that speeds up physically experiences every physical slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety. A society that entertains itself daily experiences every non-entertaining moment as Depression / Anxiety. FAST VISUALS /WORDS MAKE SLOW EMOTIONS EXTINCT. SCIENTIFIC /INDUSTRIAL /FINANCIAL THINKING DESTROYS EMOTIONAL CIRCUITS. A FAST (LARGE) SOCIETY CANNOT FEEL PAIN / REMORSE / EMPATHY. A FAST (LARGE) SOCIETY WILL ALWAYS BE CRUEL TO ANIMALS/ TREES/ AIR/ WATER/ LAND AND TO ITSELF. Comparing life in Harperstan with life in Vanhanenstan. Finally able to put into exact and simple words exactly what made me leave without looking back, back then. Finding that things have taken a turn for the worst and that there’s really no turning back. Actually more happy with my decision than ever before. Enjoying life. Pondering what to do when I go back to the European dystopia at the end of this month. Meanwhile, wondering if I should visit someone in Caledonia, while I’m on this side of the big pond.
