SALON BLOGS MONTHLY DIRECTORY AND COMBINED POPULARITY RANKING

Of the 1900 Salon blogs in existence, about 400 were active in the last month. They received an aggregate 1,200,000 hits during the month, a record and up 17% from last month. However, excluding the huge 250,000 jump in hits for Julie/Julia due to her coverage in the major media, the number of hits actually dropped 5% this month. The aggregrate number of inbound links dropped 8% this month to 2,900. It was still our second strongest month ever. Breaking into the list this month at #38 was Doublethink, the articulate political blog with a huge and all-inclusive blogroll of liberal resources, and a thorough index of her posts sorted for the reader three different ways. Alas, she’s going on hiatus for a month.

Technical problems (now resolved) hurt All Day Permanent Red earlier this month, and are now plaguing Reverse Cowgirl.

The female contingent on the top 50 dipped slightly to 14.

Of the active Salon blogs, 27 averaged over 100 hits per day (down from 30 last month), and 57 have more than 10 inbound blogs (down from 61 last month).
