Birds of Kaua’i

Part of my practice of noticing is taking photos of birds (and other living creatures). Here’s what came into view today by the beach near Kapa’a:

plumeria

golden plover, locally called the kōlea

zebra-dove
ubiquitous zebra dove

white-rumped-shama
delightful songbird, the white-rumped shama

ghost-crab
a ghost crab, just about actual size

java-sparrow
the puffin-like java sparrow

red-crested-cardinal
red-crested cardinal

common-myna
highly invasive, ruthlessly hunted and vocally creative myna, known for their pre-roosting mass “communal noise”

common-myna-juvenile
possibly a juvenile myna
